Biography
Jonathan Lipton was born in New York and studied at the Julliard School and SUNY Purchase. After positions with Ulster Orchestra and BBC National Orchestra of Wales he was appointed 4th horn of London Symphony Orchestra in 1987 and held the position for over 30 years - the longest serving fourth horn in the orchestra’s history.
During his time with the LSO he was a member of the board of directors and was heavily involved in the Discovery program visiting schools and colleges across the UK.
Jonathan is a hugely respected teacher of the horn and works as professor of horn and Wagner Tuba at Guildhall School of Music and Drama alongside his many private pupils. Jonathan teaches all ages and abilities but is particularly well known for helping professional players who have encountered problems. In this role he has successfully enabled many to return to their jobs at orchestras all over the world
